How to measure for a custom STOMAGUARD fit

Every STOMAGUARD shield is custom-cut to match your appliance. Just send us two measurements with your order and we'll do the rest — at no extra cost.

Why we custom-fit

Stoma appliances vary in shape and size between brands and between the different pouches in a single range. A one-size shield will either be too tight against the bag (uncomfortable, restricts the bag filling) or too loose (less protection, more movement under clothing). Cutting each shield to the right gap means it sits exactly where it should — flush against the adhesive plate, with the right room for the bag underneath.

The pouch model list on the order page covers the popular appliances, but the gap dimensions can still vary slightly between batches or with how the bag has been folded. Sending us your own measurements guarantees the fit.

What you need

  • A ruler with millimetres (a tape measure works too)
  • Two strips of plain paper (postcard or printer paper is fine — anything with straight edges)
  • Your ostomy appliance, laid flat on a clean, flat surface

You don't need to remove an appliance you're wearing to take these measurements. Use a clean, unused one from your supplies.

The two measurements

You're measuring the gap between the adhesive plate (the part that sticks to your skin) and the bag (the pouch that hangs below). Two measurements: height and width of that gap.

Measure the height (top) and width (bottom) of the gap between adhesive plate and bag, in millimetres.

Step 1 — measure the height

  1. Lay the appliance flat with the bag below the adhesive plate, the way it sits on your body.
  2. Place one strip of paper horizontally along the bottom edge of the adhesive plate.
  3. Place a second strip of paper horizontally along the top edge of the bag.
  4. Check the strips are parallel by lining them up on both the right and the left sides — the gap should be the same width all the way across.
  5. Measure the gap between the two strips in millimetres. That's your height.

Step 2 — measure the width

  1. Same appliance, same flat surface.
  2. Place one strip of paper vertically along the right edge of the adhesive plate / bag where they meet.
  3. Place a second strip of paper vertically along the left edge of the same join.
  4. Check the strips are parallel by lining them up on both the top and the bottom.
  5. Measure the gap between the two strips in millimetres. That's your width.

How to send us the measurements

After you place your order, you'll get a confirmation email starting SNIP-. The easiest way to send us the measurements is to reply to that email with two numbers:

Height: 60 mm
Width: 80 mm

A photo of the measurement alongside the appliance is genuinely helpful if you're unsure — feel free to send one. But the two numbers on their own are usually all we need.

What we do next

Once we have your measurements we cut the shield to fit, pack it, and dispatch the same or next working day. UK delivery is 2–4 days via Royal Mail 2nd Class; international tracked deliveries take 5–14 working days depending on the destination.
